02 Feb Katherine High School Mobile Phone Policy
Community Survey // March. 2022
With the widespread ownership of mobile phones and other digital technologies among students, it is critical that schools, in partnership with families, provide clear guidance for students to become informed, safe, respectful, and responsible digital citizens.
To ensure a safe and supportive learning environment, Katherine High School (KHS) is currently reviewing their Responsible Mobile Phone Use Policy. In consultation with students and their school community, KHS aim to make local decisions about how and when students will be permitted to access and use their mobile phones and personal devices while on school grounds or during the school day.
The review of the current mobile phone policy is being facilitated by Circulanation, a Katherine based not-for-profit organisation. This participatory design process actively involves all stakeholders and end-users in the design of the policy. This approach ensures that people with a lived experience of the relevant issue are active participants throughout the development process and results in a more responsive and human-centred policy.
We are conducting this review in three phases:
Phase 1: Discover – Research is conducted to gather information on the current system.
Phase 2: Design– Research insights are processed and turned into prototypes, new policies and processes and tools are designed for testing.
Phase 3: Evaluate – Before scaling solutions, they are piloted to debug new systems so that they can be scaled up with confidence that any design, technological, regulatory, and human resource requirements have been addressed.
