The Circulanation enables the economic empowerment and social inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within our community through entrepreneurial capacity building and Indigenous enterprise development.
Our mission is to accelerate the self-determination of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through the cultivation of sustainable enterprises, that celebrate cultural vitality, respect Country, and drive social equality and economic prosperity.
Despite years of government attempts to ‘close the gap’, Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples continue to face persistent economic and social exclusion, and remain the most disadvantaged and marginalised group in Australia.
Over the last four decades, people have mostly been presented with two options: employment or welfare. Many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are dissatisfied with the current situation and have the desire to be in control of their own economic pathways and futures.
Communities have identified entrepreneurship as a vehicle for economic and social change: to create jobs and self-employment, to reconnect people with Country, to create pride and offer their unique culture to the market.
Although there exists a wealth of knowledge, talent and entrepreneurial aspiration within communities, potential entrepreneurs lack access to networks, financial capital, and training necessary to transform their dreams into reality.
We provide a safe and supportive learning environment, for people to develop and grow their ideas. Facilitating a capacity building pathway to develop entrepreneurial competencies, and provide business support and connections to networks to early-stage entrepreneurs seeking to establish their own business.
Our primary objectives are to:
• Increase entrepreneurial capabilities and competencies
• Increase self-employment, empowering jobs, and living local economies
• Increase the sustainability of new or existing Indigenous enterprises
• Enable empowered social and economic participaton of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples
• Encourage cultural identity as a basis through which to engage in the economy
• Contribute the growth of the Indigenous Economy and Indigenous Business Sector
